FY11 Final Spending Bill Includes $185 Million for Section 811 Program

The final spending bill (H.R. 1437) to fund the federal government though FY11, includes $185 million for the Section 811 Program for People with Disabilities. While this is considerably less than the $300 million enacted in FY10, it is twice the amount proposed by the House in H.R. 1. The final spending bill provides sufficient funding to cover renewal of existing Mainstream Vouchers and to provide $50 million for the development of new Section 811 units. Based on costs in the recently released HUD FY10 Section 811 NOFA estimates that using the existing Capital/PRAC model, $50 million could create between 350-400 new units.
