Mainstream Service Resources for People Who Are Homeless
McKinney/Vento Technical Assistance: Mainstream Service Resources
This is a comprehensive one-day training on mainstream service resources that can be used to help state and local Continuum of Care agencies meet the needs of homeless people. This training is customized to include information about available federal and state entitlement and benefits programs, including presentations from key state and federal agencies that administer these funds.  This training is designed for staff from agencies that provide housing or services to homeless people including those staff who directly provide services; those that administer the program and/or make policy decisions; and those that prepare the Continuum of Care application. Topics covered include:
  • The role of mainstream service resources in ending homelessness;

  • An overview of key service resources including: Medicaid; Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI); Veterans Health Care; Workforce Investment Act; Food Stamps; Welfare to Work; State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP); and Substance Abuse, Mental Health and Social Services block grants;

  • How mainstream resources can be used;

  • Who is eligible for mainstream resources; and

  • Where to get more information.
