Audrey Burnam, Ph.D., is Senior Behavioral Scientist at RAND and heads its Center for Research on Alcohol, Drugs, and Mental Health. She is also Professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School of policy analysis. Dr. Burnam has been actively involved in mental health and substance abuse research for over 25 years. She has directed numerous studies on epidemiology and delivery of services in mental health and substance abuse. She is the author or co-author of over 125 published professional articles and has served as Deputy Editor of the journal Medical Care (1998-2003). Her current research projects focus on improving access to services, and the quality of research for, persons with co-occurring mental and addictive disorders; assessing equity in the delivery of mental health services relative to medical services in the era of managed care; evaluating the impact of parity policies for mental health and substance abuse benefits for federal employees; and improving care for teen depression in primary healthcare settings. Dr. Burnam received her doctorate in Social Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in mental health epidemiology at UCLA in 1979.
