Miriam Davis, Ph.D., is an independent medical writer and consultant. She holds an adjunct faculty post at the George Washington University School of School of Public Health and Health Services. Dr. Davis gained more than 10 years of health policy experience at the National Institutes of Health and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services. As a medical writer, she covers wide-ranging topics in molecular biology, mental health, and neuroscience. Her co-authored review articles have appeared in Science, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and other publications. She served as senior science writer for three US Surgeon General Reports, including Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General (1999) and Mental Health: Culture, Race and Ethnicity, A Supplement to Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General (2001). She also wrote for the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. She holds a BA from Wellesley College and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from Princeton University (1982).
