Haiden Ashby Huskamp, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. She has three primary areas of research: 1) the economics of the pharmaceutical industry; 2) the economics of mental health and substance abuse (MHSA) treatment; and 3) the financing of end-of-life care services. Dr. Huskamp currently receives a Career Development Award from the National Institute of Mental Health. The award focuses on the economics of drugs used to treat mental illness. It has enabled her to examine the impact of three-tier prescription drug formularies on cost, utilization patterns, and demand response. She also participated in the claims data analysis for the evaluation of providing parity for mental health and substance abuse benefits within the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. She serves as Co-Editor of the Economics Grand Rounds Column for Psychiatric Services and an Ad Hoc Reviewer for numerous professional journals. Currently, Dr. Huskamp is studying utilization and cost patterns among individuals who use hospice care at the end of life.
