Turning Knowledge into Practice: A Manual for Behavioral Health Care –
Hyde, Arons, Burnam, Goldman, Morris, Isett, Morrissey, Coleman-Beattie

Turning Knowledge into Practice is a “how-to” manual for clinicians and administrators – and their chief partners: consumers and family members. Through its attractively formated 100-pages, the manual is devoted to explaining and implementing evidence-based practices (EBPs). These are practices backed by scientific evidence, rather than by theoretical or popular beliefs. The manual begins with a clear definition of evidence-based practices: “clinical and administrative practices that have been proven to consistently produce specific, intended results.” The manual is an outgrowth of the finding that many behavioral health administrators do not have a common understanding of EBPs. Improved understanding allows them to make good decisions about implementing EBPs in services they deliver. The manual describes in a simple, step-by-step approach how to overcome barriers to implementing EBPs.
