VA homeless technical assistance
Since 2009, TAC has worked under a grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide technical assistance (TA) to non-profit organizations interested in developing programs serving homeless veterans. TAC works with the VA and community-based providers to expand the array of funding resources accessed and leveraged to serve homeless veterans, and to strengthen the ability of non-profits to incorporate best practices into the continuum of programs available to homeless veterans.
TAC's VA TA team consists of 15 TA/training experts including TAC Staff, staff from Abt Associates, and other consultants.

HUD & VA Announce $15 Million Demonstration Program to Prevent Veteran Homelessness
On July 22, the U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a three-year $15 million initiative to address the prevention of homelessness among veterans. Under the new Veterans Homelessness Prevention Demonstration Program (VHPD), existing HUD grantees or 'Continuums of Care' located near the following military installations will each receive $2 million: MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida; Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California; Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas; Fort Drum in Watertown, New York; and Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Washington. In addition, VA medical centers in the following areas will each receive $1 million: Tampa, San Diego, Dallas, Syracuse, New York; and American Lake in Washington.
The VHPD demonstration is similar in design to HUD's Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) and is intended to address the financial and supportive services needs of veterans and their families who may be at-risk of homelessness, or experiencing short-term homelessness. Veterans from the wars in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, and veterans serving in the National Guard and Reserve are among the groups targeted for the demonstration.
