Developing a Supportive Housing Program in Illinois

TAC assisted the Illinois Department of Mental Health (DMH) in developing a blueprint and implementation plan for a supportive housing program to transition people with mental illness living unnecessarily in restrictive settings (e.g., nursing homes and mental health facilities) to supportive housing in the community linked with new Medicaid Rehabilitation Option funding for community-based supportive services. TAC assisted DMH to develop a comprehensive supportive housing policy, conducted stakeholder meetings, and created a new DMH Bridge Subsidy program which has provided supportive housing for more than 1,000 DMH clients.
