Prepared by TAC consultants Kevin Martone, Francine Arienti, Rachel Post, and Ashley Mann-McLellan, this is the second in the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors’ 2020 series of ten briefs on the theme “Beyond Beds: Crisis Services.” Using as a framework the National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care: Best Practice Toolkit issued by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the authors explore issues that should be considered in the design and implementation of core crisis system components, with specific consideration of the needs of individuals who experience homelessness.
