Supporting Joint Federal Initiatives to Increase Community Integration

Through a subcontract with New Editions Consulting, TAC provided technical support to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the HHS-HUD Housing Capacity Building Initiative for Community Living. This landmark project focused on building housing and service partnerships and collaborations at all levels of government to increase access to affordable housing for people with disabilities leaving nursing homes and institutions and to prevent homelessness after discharge from institutional settings.

With support from high-level HUD and HHS staff, TAC engaged in cross-agency partnership-building activities including assisting Public Housing Agencies, HUD Public and Indian Housing staff, and CMS with a HUD Housing Choice Voucher policy initiative targeting people with disabilities transitioning to the community from nursing homes and other institutions.

TAC collaborated with CMS and HUD Multifamily Housing staff to produce webinars and written guidance, and provide technical assistance to ensure the successful roll-out of the newly reformed Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program.
