Addressing Substance Use in Behavioral Health Crisis Care: A Companion Resource to the SAMHSA Crisis Toolkit, coathored by a TAC senior consultant, is the fourth brief in the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors’ series “Beyond Beds: Crisis Services.” This paper highlights states and programs demonstrating success in integrating substance use disorders (SUDs) into the three core services described in the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Crisis Toolkit; identifies essential principles for effective integration; and describes practices that are specific to the SUD population.
