In September 2023, TAC published Transforming the Role of Opioid Treatment Programs: Opportunities, Considerations, and Choices in a Time of Crisis, outlining steps for opioid treatment programs (OTPs) to become dynamic and effective entities capable of addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by opioid addiction and contributing to a more resilient and responsive health care system. This valuable resource for policymakers, health care professionals, and community leaders draws on a review of relevant literature and recent developments — and on the results of interviews with national leaders, state policymakers, recovery community members, State Opioid Treatment Authorities, and opioid treatment programs recognized as innovators — to offer recommendations on re-envisioning the SUD treatment system to encompass patient-centered access to methadone treatment, along with a full array of recovery supports.
