Planning, Developing, & Financing Affordable Supportive Housing

Integrated, accessible, affordable, and community-based housing helps people with disabilities live full lives in the locations they choose. Unfortunately, our nation’s shortage of affordable rental housing is a major barrier to community integration. In fact, TAC’s Priced Out report finds that people relying on Supplemental Security Income cannot afford market-rate rental housing anywhere in the United States.

With incomes that average only 20 percent of the median in any given area, many people with significant disabilities are forced unnecessarily into costly and segregated nursing facilities, state hospitals, homelessness, or incarceration.

Combining extensive expertise in sustainable models of housing with services and a deep understanding of resources, TAC helps states to finance and develop integrated, community-based housing for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and for people with disabilities living in congregate and institutional settings.
