Beginning in 2019, TAC assisted the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development in meeting a request from the state’s General Assembly to develop and implement strategies to expand supportive housing. TAC worked with a state steering committee to develop a three-year Action Plan with five goals and 57 specific strategies and action items to meet the long-term need for 5,000 units of supportive housing. The goals addressed services and supports, capital subsidies, rental assistance, preferential access for the target population, and strategies to enhance system capacity. TAC has since been working with regional behavioral health agencies to implement this plan, including training these agencies on developing supportive housing.
