Over several years, TAC has collaborated with the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) to provide technical assistance to NASMHPD’s Housing Division, and to Transformation Transfer Initiative program grantees. NASHMPD has also engaged TAC to author several papers providing important resources for behavioral health system leaders and other stakeholders. TAC-authored papers developed on behalf of NASMHPD include:  

• The Role of Permanent Supportive Housing in Determining Psychiatric Inpatient Bed Capacity (2017), which discusses the importance of housing with services in serving people with serious mental illness in the community.   

• Effective Behavioral Health Crisis Care for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness (2020), which explores issues that should be considered in the design and implementation of core crisis system components, with specific consideration of the needs of people experiencing homelessness.    

• The Role of Supportive Housing, Case Management, and Employment Services in Reducing the Risk of Behavioral Health Crisis (2022), which recommends strategies for maximizing the effectiveness of supportive housing, case management, and employment services as integral behavioral health system components that can help with crisis prevention, mitigation, and recovery.
